Located in the beautiful surroundings of Bhopal's picturesque Idgah Hills in the breezy salubrious climate on the edge of the Malwa Plateau, the Jawaharlal Nehru Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal has proved to be a boon to the patients of Madhya Pradesh and the country at large.
The institute is one of the pioneer institutes of Central India dedicated to cancer cure with a vision to provide the utmost care to cancer patients with a legacy of humanitarian service. In the wake of the Gas Tragedy that took place in Bhopal in 1984, which was one of the most catastrophic human tragedies in the history of mankind that shook the very fabric of the city and also led to serious long-term harmful effects, the medical fraternity was quite alarmed and very accurately predicted the rise in cancer cases in the city. These warnings obviously added a sense of urgency to the long-left need for a comprehensive cancer hospital in Bhopal, one of the fastest-developing towns in India. Therefore, the institute's inception came as a boon to the society.
Dedicated to the public on 11th January, 1995 by erstwhile President of India His Excellency Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the subsequent years witnessed a speedy expansion and up-gradation of facilities with the result that the level of treatment of our institute is equivalent to any top nationally known cancer institutes with an internationally recognized research centre. This has been acknowledged by a large galaxy of top experts.
